What is the nature of the magnetic field due to a current carrying (a) linear conductor (b) circular coil

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) Magnetic field lines of force due to a current carrying linear conductor are in the form of concentric circles with conductor as centre of the circles.
(b) The plane of the magnetic lines of force is perpendicular to the length of conductor.
(b) The magnetic lines of force due to a current carrying circular wire lie in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the coil. The lines are practically straight near the centre of the wire loop and are concentric circles near the wire.
