An electric lamp is connected in series ...

An electric lamp is connected in series with a variable capacitor. What happens if source is D.C. ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The resistance offered by the capacitor to the flow of current is given by
`X_C =1/(omegaC)=1/(2pivC)`
For d.c. v = 0, so `X_C=oo`.
Since capacitor offers infinite resistance to the flow of d.c., so d.c. cannot pass through the capacitor. Hence the bulb will not glow.
