When a current flows in the coil of a transformer, then why does the core become hot?

When alternating current passes through the coil of a transformer, its core gets magnetised and demagnetised over a complete cycle and this process is repeated with each cycle. The energy spent in magnetising the core does not return in full on demagnetisation. This loss of energy in the core appears in the form of heat.
