Green house effect : The warming of earth.s atmosphere due to entrapment of infrared rays by low lying clouds or blanket of carbondioxide around the earth is called green house effect.
During daytime, earth.s surface receives visible light and infrared radiations from the sun (the other radiations are either absorbed or reflected by the earth.s atmosphere) and gets heated to low temperature.
During night, the warm surface of the earth emits infrared radiations. The low lying clouds and `CO_(2)` present in the atmospere reflect most of these infrared radiations back on to the earth. Thus, the temperature of the earth does not fall by much amount or remains alomost the same during night - time .
