Can absolute refractive index of any material be less than one? Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

No. Refractive inded of a material can not be less than one
Refractive index `m=mu=C/v=("Velocity of light in vacuum")/("Velocity of light in medium")`
`:. cgtv` (always) and hence `mu` is always greatr than one.
