The resolving power of a telescope depends upon

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Resolving power of a telescope: It is defined as the reciprocal of the smallest angular separation between two distance objects, so that they appear just separated, when seen through the telescope.
Angular separation`= theta= (1.22 lamda)/(D)`
`therefore` Resolving power of telescope `=(1)/(theta)= (D)/(1.22 lamda)`
where `lamda` is wavelength of light and D is diameter of the objective lens of telescope.
