Natural radioactive nuclei are nuclei of...

Natural radioactive nuclei are nuclei of high mass number. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The binding energy per nucleon of the nuclei of high mass number is small as compared to that of the stable nuclei. Also neutron to proton ratio of the nuclei having high mass number is different from that for stablcnuclei. Such nuclei undergo radioactive decay so as to attain more binding energy per nucleon and hence the more stability.
