Kohlrausch law can be used to find the m...

Kohlrausch law can be used to find the molar conductivity of a weak electrolyte at `infinite dilution.

Text Solution

Weak electrolytes like acetic acid have lower degree of dissociation at higher. Concentrations. Thus for such electrolytes the charge in `lamda_(m)` with dilution is due to increase in the degree of dissocation and hence the number of ione in total volume of solution that contains 1 mole of electrolyte. in such cases `lamda_(m)` increases steeply on dilution especially near lower concentrations. as shown in the graph of `lamda_(m)` vs `sqrt(C)` for acetic acid. in such cases the curve becomes asymptotic the curve approcher y-axis but never touches. it. thus intersection of the curve and the `lamda-`axis i.e., `lamda_(m)^(@)("or "lamda_(m)^(@))` or molar conductance at infinite dilution.

Molar conductivty versus `sqrt(C)` for acetic acid (weak electrolyte) in aqueous solutions.
