Assume that you know the molar conductances of `NH_(4)Cl`, NaOH and NaCl at infinite dilution. How will you fint the molar conductance of `NH_(4)OH` from them ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It can be done by using Kohlrausch law as explained below:
`lamda_(m)^(0(NH_(4)OH))=lamda_(m)^(0(NH_(4)^(+)))+lamda_(m)^(0)(OH^(-))`
`=lamda_(m)^(0)(NH_(4)^(+))+lamda_(m)^(0)(Cl^(-))+lamda_(m)^(0)(Na^(+))`
`+lamda_(m)^(0)(OH^(-))-lamda_(m)^(0)(Na^(+))-lamda_(m)^(0)(Cl)`
`=lamda_(m)^(0)(NH_(4)Cl)+lamda_(m)^(0)(NaOH)-lamda_(m)^(0)(NaCl)`
Knowing the values of `lamda_(m)^(0)(NH_(4)Cl),lamda_(m)^(0)(NaOH) and lamda_(m)^(0)(NaCl)`, the value of `lamda_(m)^(0)(NH_(4)OH)` can be calculated.
