Reimer Tiemann reaction Treatment of phenol with chloroform in the preserve of aqueous alkali at K results in the formation of o- hydroxybenzaldehyde (salicyaldehyde) and p- hydroxybenzaldehyde , the ortho isomer being the major prodict .
