Orthonitrophenol and paranitrophenol are more acidic than phenols. Give reasons.

In nitrophenols , the presence of electrons withdrawing nitro group increases the acidic strength of phenol . The effect is more prenounced when such a group is present at ortho and para position w.r.t -OH (phenolic)group .It is due effective delocalisation of negative charge in phenoxide ion .
