Alcohols are easily protonated in comparison to phenols.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In alcohols the lone pair of electrons in oxygeneration is localised and hence in easily available for protonation .

On the other hand , the lone pair of electrons on oxygen atom in phenols is involved in resonance and hence is delocalised and thus not easily available for protonate on . Therefore alcohols are easily protonated in comparison to phenols .
