Victor Meyer.s test involves the following steps :
1. Trent the given alcohol with red phosphorus and iodine to get alkyl iodide .
2. Treat the alkyl iodine with silver nitrite to get nitro alkane .
3. Treat thr nitroalkane with nitrous acid `(NaNO_(2)+dilH_(2)SO_(4))` and make the solution alkaline .
a . A blood red colour indicates a `1^(@)` alcohol
(b) A blue red colour indicates a `2^(@)` alcohol .
(c ) A clourlese solution indicates a `3^(@)` alcohol .
