what is the composition of enzymes?...

what is the composition of enzymes?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Enzymes are a group of globular proteins which act as biological catalysts in the living organisms. They work best at normal temperature (310 K) pressure (1 atm) and pH (7). They are very specific and efficient in thier action.
Mechanism of enzyme action
In case of enzyme catalysed reaction the enzyme is so built that it binds to the substrate in a specific manner. The reaction may then proceed through the following three stages, (i) the formation of complex between enzyme and substrate (ES), (ii) the conversation of this complex to a complex between enzyme and product (EP) and (iii) the dissociation of the enzyme-product complex, leaving the enzyme unchanged.
