Antibiotics which kill or inhibit a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria are said to be broad spectrum anitbitotics. For example chloramphenicol can be used in case of typhoid, dysentery, acute fever, certain form of urinary infections, meningitis and pneumonia.
