Pisciculture. The production, rearing of fishes is called as pisciculture. Increasing fish production is called blue revolution. Importance.
(i) Fish is being used as food which is excellent source of protein.
(ii) For controlling diseases like malaria, yellow fever, etc. which are spread through mosquitoes, Larvicidal fish like Gambusia, Trichogaster etc. eat larvae of mosquitoes.
(iii) Various products of fish like fish oil, fish glue, manure, shagreen, leather, etc. are of economic importance.
(iv) Source of income.
(v) Fishing industry provides more employment.
(vi) Large number of fish are cultured in aquatium for their beauty and aesthetic value like Trichogaster, Macroprodus, Pterophyllum (Angel fish), Carassinus (Gold fish) etc
