Explain why photosynthesis is considered...

Explain why photosynthesis is considered the most important process in the biosphere.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Green plants or producers manufacture food by trapping sunlight by photosynthesis. Whole life is dependent on producers directly or indirectly. Green plants are capable of absorbing only 50 % of energy of the total incident solar radiation present in photosynthetically active radiation or 2-10% of PAR is actually captured by the photosynthesis process and the remaining portion is dissipated. Since there is simultaneously occurrence of respiration and use part of the photosynthesis gain. the net capture of energy is reduced of the incident total radiation or 1.6-8% of PAR. Only the energy captured in net productivity of producers is used by other trophic levels.
So photosynthesis is the most importance process of the biosphere, which supports all the trophic levels or whole life of the universe.
