Define ecological pyramid and describe pyramids of number and biomass.

Ecological pyramids. AN ecosystem can be represented graphically by means of pyramids which are known as ecological pyramids. The common parameters for graphical representation are:-
(i) number of individuals
(ii) dry weight
(iii) rate of energy flow
Pyramids of number It terrestial ecosystem-pyramid of number is upright. In ecosystem of single tree pyramid of number is inverted.
Pyramids of biomass. In terrestial ecosystem pyramid of biomass is upright but in pond ecosystem, pyramid of biomass is inverted.
