(i) Critically endangered -A taxon is critically endangered when its is facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.In India,44 plant species and 18 animal species are critically endangered.
Example -Berberis endangered and sus nilghiriensis are the critically endangered plants and animal respectively.
(ii) Endangered-A taxon is endangered when it is not critically endangered but is facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future .In India,there are 113 endangered plant species and 54 endangered animal sppecies.
Example- Bentrickia and Ailurus fulgens are the endangered plants and animals respectively.
(iii) Vulnerable- A taxon is vulnerable when it is not critically endangered ,but is facing a high risk of extinction in the wild in the medium term future.In India ,87 plant species and 143 animal species are vulnerable .
Example -Cupressus cashmerianan and antilope cervicapra are the vulnerable plants and animals respectively.
