There are two basic strategies of consrvation of Dioaiversity i.e. situ (on site ) and ex-situ. (off site)

the in situ ( on site ) conservation strategy emphasises the protection of total ecosystem. This approach includes protection of a group of typical ecosystem by a network of protected areas. the ex situ (off site) conservation strategies include botanical gardens, zoos meant for consrvation of gene, pollen, seed, seeding and DNA banks. protected Area Network includes national parks, wildlife sanctuaries , and biosphere reserves etc. sacred groves or sacred forests are traditional protected areas which serve as refugia for a number of rare and endangered taxa. Twenty five hot spots o fterrestrial biodiversity have been identified, of which two are in india.
