If two bulbs of 25 W and 100 W rated at 200 volts are connected in series across a 440 volts supply, then

A

100 watt bulb will fuse

B

25 watt bulb will fuse

C

none of the bulb will fuse

D

both the bulbs will fuse

The correct Answer is:
B

`R_(1)=(V^(2))/(P)=(200^(2))/(25)=1600Omega`
`R_(2)=(200^(2))/(100)=400Omega`
When both bulbs are connected in series,
`V_(1)=440xx(R_(1))/(R_(1)+R_(2))=440xx(1600)/(1600+400)=322V`
`V_(2)=440xx(400)/(2000)=88V`
Voltage across 25 W bulb is greater than specified voltage, hence it will fuse. Hence, (B) is correct.
