Chlamydomonas is a microscopic unicellular green algae. It is about 10-30 `mu`m. It is oblong or pyriform in shape. The Anterior end of chlamydomonas is pointed while posterior is broad. The anterior end has two tinsel shaped flagella. These are originated from the two granular structures, called blepharoplast. The cell wall of chlamydomonas is made up of glycoproteins and non cellulosic carbohydrates. The anterior end of cytoplasm contains two contractile vacuoles. They help in osmoregulation and excretions. In the centre of cytoplasm, a large cup shaped chloroplast is present . At the basal region of it, one starch containing body is present . It is called pyrenoid. Towards anterior end, a reddish spot is present. It is called eye pot or stigma. It is photosensitive in nature.
