Explain the Schottky defects in crystals.

Schottky defect was discovered by German scientist Schottky. This defect arises due to missing of lattice points or ions. Due to this, holes or vacancies are produced. Number of missing cation and anions are same. Therefore, crystal is electrically neutral. For example, KC£, NaCl etc. This defect is shown as below
