The partial pressure of ethane over a so...

The partial pressure of ethane over a solution containing `6.56 {10^(-3)`}g of ethane is 1 bar. If the solution contains `5.00 {10^(-2)`}g of ethane, then what shall be the partial pressure of the gas?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We are given that
Case I : Mass of ethane (m) = `6.56xx10^(-2)g`
Partial pressure of ethane = 1 bar
Using the relationship, `m=K_(H)p`
`K_(H)=m/(p)=(6.56xx10^(-2)g)/(1"bar")=6.56xx10^(-2)"g bar"^(-1)`
Case II : Mass of ethane (m) = `5.00xx10^(-2)g`
We are to find out the partial pressure of gas when mass is `5.00xx10^(-2)g`.
Using the relationship, `m=K_(H)p,p=m/(K_(H))=(5.00xx10^(-2)g)/(6.56xx10^(-2)"g bar"^(-1))=0.762"bar"`.
