Explain mechanism of enzyme action....

Explain mechanism of enzyme action.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

An enzyme has a number of active sites in the form of cavities with definite shape. The substrate or reactants with complementary shape fit into these cavities. Therefore, an activated complex is formed which finally forms product. Different steps of mechanism of enzyme catalysis are as follows:
Step 1 : Binding of enzyme to substrate to form an activated complex : E+S `to` ES*
Step II : Dissociation of complex to form the products : ES* `to` E+P .
