Flux is an oxide. It is added during reduction to remove the impurities (acidic or basic) present in the ore. Fluxes are generally of two types namely acidic and basic flux. `SiO_2` is acidic while `CaO` is basic flux.
Slag : Flux combines with the gangue to fonn a fusible mass known as slag.
