Transition metals form number of interstitial compounds. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Transition metals form a number of interstitial compounds because they have empty spaces or interstitial sites in their crystal lattices. These sites are occupied by the small atoms like hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen. Interstitial compounds are very hard and rigid, having high melting points than pure metals and show conductivity.
