The chemistry of the actinoid elements is not so smooth as that of the lanthanoids. Justify this statement by giving some examples from the oxidation state of these elements.

This is due to the reason that most of the actinoids are radioactive in nature. Moreover lanthanoids show limited number of oxidation state i.e., +2, +3 and +4 due to large energy gap between 4f, 5d and 6s subshells, whereas actinoids show +3, +4, +5, +6, +7 due to small energy difference between 5f, 6d and 7s subshells of the actinoids.
