Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The stability of a coordination compound in a solution means the strength of the metal - ligand bond. The stronger is the metal - ligand bond, the lesser is the dissociation of metal ligand. The different factors which affect the stability of a complex ion are given as below :
i) Charge on the central metal ion : The greater the charge on the central metal ion, the greater is the stability of a complex.
ii) Sire of metal ion: The smallerthesiz.eof central metal ion, the larger.willhethestabilityofa:complex.
iii) Basic strength of ligands : The larger is the basic strength of a ligand, the greater is the ease with which it can donate lone pairs of electrons.
iv) Size and charge of ligands: The higher the charge and smaller the.size of ligands, the mpre stable is the complex formed.
