State and explain Gay Lussac's law with an example

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Gay Lussac.s law states that at the same temperature and pressure in a chemical reaction, gases combine or are produced in a simple whole number ratio by volume.
For example, 100mL of hydrogen combines with 50mL of oxygen to give 100mL of water vapour.
`underset(100mL)("Hydrogen") + underset("50mL")("Oxygen") rarr underset("100mL")("water")`
Here, hydrogen and oxygen bear a simple whole number ratio of `2:1`.
