Give two conditions under which cathode rays are produced.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electron. was discovered in mid 1850s, in partially evacuated tube, known as cathode ray discharge tube. A cathode ray iube is made up of glass containing two thin pieces of metal, called electrodes in it.

Current starts flowing through the tube when sufficiently high voltage is applied across the electrodes. It consists of stream of particles. These particles move from negative electrode (cathode) to . positive electrode (anode). These particles were called cathode rays or cathode ray particles.
