What is the value of compressibility factor for ideal gases and real gases?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Compressibility factor `(Z)=(pV)/(nRT)" " ...(i)`
Ideal gases obey the equation, pV = nRT. By putting this value in (i), we get `Z=(nRT)/(nRT)=1`
`:.` For ideal gases Z = 1.
For non-ideal gases of real gases, `pV ne nRT `
`:.` Z can not be cqual to 1 or Z `ne` 1.
