Comment on the statement that all gases behave in ideal manner at low pressure and high temperature.

Text Solution

All gases behaves in ideal manner at low pressure and high temperature. This is because of following reasons.
i) Volume occupied by gas molecules is negligible as that of total volume of gas.
ii) Also the force (of attraction and repulsion) among the gas molecules are negligible.
Now according to Boye.s law, if the pressure of a given mass of the gas is very low, volume of gas will be very large, if pressure is kept constant.
Also volume of empty space will be very large and hence volume occupied by molecules can be neglected.
Now at high temperature, the distance between the molecules is large so that the force of attraction and repulsion among the molecules in a gas are negligible.
Hence gases behave ideally under such conditions.
