Critical temperature for carbon dioxide ...

Critical temperature for carbon dioxide and methane are `31.1^(@)C` and `-81.9^(@)C` respectively. Which of these has stronger intermolecular forces and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Out of `CO_(2)` and `CH_(4),CO_(2)` has stronger intermolecular forces, because `CO_(2)` has high critical temperature. Higher the critical temperature, stronger are the intermolecular forces and easily the gas will get liquify.
