A liquid is equilibrium with its vapours in a sealed container at a fixed temperature. The volume of the container suddenly increased.
How do rates of evaporations and condensation changes initially ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The rate of evaporation will increase initially on increasing the volume of the container. This is because of more availability of space also the amount of vapours per unit volume will decrease on increasing the volume, so the rate of condensation will decrease initially.
