Explain why all Arrhenius are also Brons...

Explain why all Arrhenius are also Bronsted acids, but Arrhenius bases are not Bronsted bases.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Arrhenius acid is a substance which can give `H^(+)` ion where Bronsted acid is a substance which can donate a proton which is also `H^(+)` ion. On the other hand an Arrhenius base is substance which give `OH^(-)` ion, while bronsted base is substance which can accept `H^(+)` ion. There are many substance which can accpet `H^(+)` ion but they don.t give `OH^(-)`e.g `H_(3)` So All Arrhenies bases are not bronsted bases.
