The compound `AgF_(2)` is unstable compound However, if formed, the compound acts as a very strong oxidising agent. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `AgF_(2)`, the oxidation state of Ag is +2 whereas its normal oxidation state is +1. So this compound will take part in chemical reaction so that its oxidation state reduced to +1 from +2. It is, therefore, a stong oxidising agent.
