Salt bridge is an inverted .U. tube shaplee containing an inert electrolyte (KCl) which does not react with solution of the half cells.
Functions of salt bridge are as follows :
(i) It makes the electrical contact between two electrolytic solutions.
(ii) It maintains the electrical neutrality of two half cell solutions.
(iii) It completes the cell circuit.
