Using s, p, d and f notations, describe the orbital with the quantum number. n = 3 , l = 0

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Alkali metals have low ionisation energy. When alkali metals or their salts are heated over a flame, the outer electrons get excited to higher energy levels. It is because of absorption of energy. To become stable, these electrons return to their orignal state by emitting energy in the form of electromagnetic radiations. these radiations fall in the visible region. therefore, alkali metals impart characteristic colour to the flame.
