Explain `Co^(2+)` is coloured whereas `Ti^(4+)` is colourless. Why ?

Text Solution

Hydration energy of `Na_(2)SO_(4)` is greater than the lattice energy. Whereas the lattice energy of `BaSO_(4)` is very high. Lattice energy of `BaSO_(4)` is greater than the hydration energy. Therefore, hydration energy released is not sufficient to break the lattice energy. hence, `BaSO_(4)` is insoluble in water.
