Why Mg does not impart colour to the flame ?
OR
Why Be and Mg do not impart any colour to the flame ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Be and Mg have small size than the other alkaline earth metals and has high ionisation enthalpy. Therefore, energy of the flame is not sufficient to excite the valence electrons to higher energy levels. Hence, Be and Mg do not impart any colour to the flame.
