How alkenes are prepared from vicinal dihalides?

in vicinal dihalides, two halogen atoms are attached to adjacent carbon atoms. On treatment with zinc dust in ethylalcohol, dihalides loss a `ZnX_2` molecule. It forms an alkene. This reaction is known as dehalogenation. `CH_2Br-CH_2Br+ Zn rarr CH_2=CH_2 + ZnBr_2`
