Acid rain is the rain water having sulphuric acid and nitric acid. These acids are formed from the oxides of sulphur and nitrogen present in the air. Rain water has pH of 4-5 (below 5.6). Harmful effects of acid rain are as follows:
i) It causes damage to the buildings and other monuments of marble, simestone, slate etc.
For example, Taj Mahal.
ii) Acid rain corrodes metals, water pipes etc.
iii) It increases the acidity of water in the lakes.
