Discuss the angular method for determining the diameter of the moon.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that
`theta=("Arc")/("radius")`
`theta=(AB)/(AO)=("diameter of moon")/(AO)`
`implies` diameter of moon `=thetaxxAO`
That is `AO=OB=` distance of moon from earth.
Putting value of AO and `theta` we can calculate diameter of moon.
