Explain why Water with detergent disolved in it should have small angles of contact.

Text Solution

Clothes have fine capillaries. The rise of liquid in a capillary is proportional to `costheta`. If `theta` is small, `costheta` will be large. Therefore, if detergent have large angle of contact, they cannot but dissolved in water. Therefore detergents have small angle of contact.
