When the radiowaves from the transmitting antenna propagate along the surface of the earth so as to receiving antenna the wave propagation is called ground wave propagation. It is also known as surface wave propagation.
Ground Waves can be used for the communication between every two locations on earth by providing proper power to transmitter but in ground wave propagation, a high power transmitter is required. The ground wave propagation is limited to frequency range 530 KHz to 1710 KHz. Therefore, large antennas are required for their communication between two location on earth. Apart from this, in surface wave propagation, the energy loss of E.M. Waves occur, with surface material and its composition.
In this method of propagation, the waves are less affected by changing atmospheric conditions.
