Why the rate of physical adsorption decreases with the rise of temperature ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Physisorption is an exothermic process :
`underset(("Adsorbent"))("Solid") +underset(("Adsorbate"))("Gas") hArr underset(("Gas absorbedonsolid"))("Gas/Liquid")+` Heat
According to Le-Chatilier.s Principle, if we increase the temperature, cquilibrium will shift in the backward direction i.e. gas is released from the absorbed surface.
Thus physisorption decrease with increase in temperature.
