This is Darzen.s Method. `SO_2 and HCl `evaporate as gases and leave behind pure product R-Cl. Pyridine as reagent is added. In presence of pyridine it follows `SN_1` mechanism in its absence the reaction follows `SN_1 ` mechanism.
