Haloarenes are insoluble in water but soluble in benzene. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Haloarenes are insoluble in water because these cannot form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. However these are soluble in benzene in accordance with the general principle of solubility i.e. like dissolves like. Haloarenes are organic compounds having a large hydrocarbon part (benzene ring) and are soluble in hydrocarbon solvents like benzene.
