Calculate the molar conductance of solutions of `MgCl_2` at infinite dilution given that the molar Ionic-conduction of `lambda^@ (Mg^(2+)) = 126.1 s cm^2 mol^(-1) and lambda^@ (Cl^(-)) = 56.3s cm^2 mol^(-1)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

we know `lambda^@ (MgCl_2) = lambda^@ (Mg^(2+)) + 2lambda^@(Cl^(-))`
`lambda(Mg^(2+)) = 106.1 s cm^2 mol^(-1)`
`lambda^@ (Cl^(-)) = 76.3 s cm^2 mol^(-1)`
So `lambda^@(MgCl_2) = 106.1 + 2(76.3) = 106.1 + 152.6`
` = 258.7 s cm^2 mol^(-1)`
